Autism-Friendly Tips for Bedtime Wind Down: Start preparing for bedtime before bedtime. Bedtime prep can start way before the jammies come on to ensure a little body is calm and ready for Dreamland. At least two hours before bed:
Turn off screens
Avoid running around
Enjoy an early dinner Create a Routine: Following a routine before and during bedtime can help reduce stress and help with the transition into the evening. It may take a few tries to find a routine that helps and feels easy to repeat each night. Introduce calming activities:
Reading stories
Listening to soothing music
Sensory play Remove the Stimuli: Being sensitive to sensory experiences is common and that sensitivity can make it harder to rest. Ensure their room is dark and free of loud noises when they go to lie down. Try some new additions to their room:
Thick or soundproof rug
Blackout curtains
