Pool Safety

Help children stay safe at the pool! This social story teaches important rules like walking near water, using toys safely, and asking an adult before swimming.

Pool Safety When it is warm out, we might go to the pool!
At the pool, we get to:
Swim in the water
Play with pool toys
Lay out in the sun
I also need to remember to stay safe at the pool, especially when there are others around.
If I'm playing with my pool toys, I need to be careful not to throw them so I don't hit anyone by accident.
The ground around the pool can be pretty slippery, so I should always use my walking feet by the pool.
If I want to jump in the pool, I should first ask the adult I am with if it's okay. Sometimes I won't be able to jump into the pool, but that's okay!
Some pools have slides or diving boards. If I want to use one, I can ask the adult I am with if it's okay. If they say yes, I will wait my turn to use it so everyone can have fun.
The pool can get very deep, so I need to stay in the shallow water to make sure I can reach the floor. If I am wearing floaties, I will make sure to keep them on so I can float safely in the water.
Playing in the pool is so much fun and I love going every Summer!

Social stories use simple langauge and clear visuals to walk your autistic child through situations like new routines, transitions, or social interactions.
