Understanding the Internet
The Internet is a powerful tool filled with so much information.
On the Internet, you can find:
Educational information, like articles and videos
Ways to connect with people, like social media
Entertaining media, like shows and books
Services and items, like businesses and online shops
While the internet can be a powerful tool, there are some things on the internet that aren’t real or true.
The Internet has information shared by regular people who are not always professionals in the information they are sharing.
There can be images or videos that are created by people and computer software, making them look different than they should.
Since anyone can share information on the Internet, it’s important to ask an adult I trust if the information I am looking at is real.
There are some ways I can try to identify if something is real or fake on the internet:
Spot things that seem off or too unbelievable to be true, like things posted on social media
See if there are any sources for the information, like sharing the article a video is talking about
Check if something is labeled that it is made by AI software, like videos and images
It’s important to also never click any links I don’t recognize or that haven’t been approved by a safe adult.
If something is too good to be true, like getting something for free from a website, then it’s probably fake, and I should talk to a safe adult about it immediately.
The Internet can help me learn so many things, but it’s important to take a closer look and determine if something is real or not before believing it!
