Meet the Fire Department!

Help your autistic child learn about firefighters and paramedics! This social story explains how emergency responders help keep families safe.

Meet the fire department If a fire happens, an adult will call 9-1-1.
When they call for emergency help, the fire department will send their firefighting team.
They will drive through town in a big truck with flashing lights and a loud siren.
When the firetruck arrives, it might be very loud and bright.
They will attach the hose to the fire hydrant to gain access to water and extinguish the fire.
Firefighters have a special uniform, they wear:
A helmet
Protective jacket and pants
Gloves
Boots
This special uniform keeps them safe in the high temperatures as they work to extinguish flames.
An ambulance will arrive with the fire truck if someone needs medical attention.
The paramedic will tend to the injured person and take them to the hospital in the ambulance.
