Opening Gifts

Help your child learn the steps to opening gifts with our social story!

Opening Gifts: During the holidays I might receive presents! When it is time to open gifts, I will wait for it to be my turn. Once it is my turn, I will wait until I am given the gifts in my hands. If I need help opening the gift, I can say "Please Help!" to an adult. Once the gift is unwrapped, I will say "Thank you!" I might receive many presents, so I will make sure to open all my gifts before I start playing. When all of my gifts are open, I can say "Thank you for my gifts, I love them!" Then I can give other people the gifts I have for them. When they say "Thank you!" I can say "You're Welcome!'

Social stories use simple langauge and clear visuals to walk your autistic child through situations like new routines, transitions, or social interactions. Reading them together ahead of time helps reduce anxiety, builds understanding, and makes unfamiliar moments feel more predictable and manageable.
