What is Listening

Helps children understand that listening is more than hearing words—it’s paying attention, understanding others, and responding appropriately. Teaches simple strategies like using a calm body and facing the speaker to support stronger communication at home, school, and with friends.

What is Listening? When someone is speaking to me, I use my listening ears to listen to what they have to say.
Listening is not just about hearing the words someone speaks, but also about understanding what they are saying.
Listening to people when they speak shows:
I care about what they have to say
I respect the person I’m listening to
I am part of the conversation
Being part of a conversation means I am responding to what someone says, showing that I was listening.
To listen, I’ll need to prepare my body by:
Having a calm body
Turning my body to the speaker
Using listening ears
I use my listening ears when I am at school, too.
Listening to the teacher at school is how I can learn new things.
Whether I am listening to my family speak at home or my friends at school, listening is a great way to build strong relationships with people in my life.Download Now!
